Our business and service network covers over 20 provinces across China. Our projects involve more than 600 urban sewage treatment plants and over 1,000 end customers in industrial wastewater treatment, mineral processing, and oilfield chemicals. The total sewage treatment capacity involved in the projects exceeds 20 million tons per day. We are a leading company in the Chinese market within the high-end segment of environmental protection chemicals for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.
An authoritative guide on the mechanisms, industrial applications, and commercial trends driving modern water treatment.
Wastewater clarification is a fundamental process in both municipal sewage treatment and industrial wastewater management. Raw wastewater typically contains highly stable colloidal suspensions. Due to their negative surface charges (measured as Zeta Potential), these microscopic particles repel one another, preventing natural sedimentation. To overcome this stability, the application of a high-performance water flocculant is crucial.
The clarification process occurs in two primary stages:
By optimizing the synergy between inorganic coagulants (PAC/PFS) and organic polymeric flocculants (PAM), wastewater treatment plants can achieve up to a 99% reduction in Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and significantly lower Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).
Globally, the demand for advanced water flocculants for wastewater clarification is experiencing unprecedented growth. This surge is driven by increasingly stringent environmental regulations, rising water scarcity, and the industrial push toward Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems. Industries such as mining, metallurgy, petrochemicals, textiles, and food processing are under heavy regulatory pressure to treat and recycle process water.
From a commercial perspective, chemical efficiency and cost-effectiveness are the primary metrics. Traditional alum and iron salts are rapidly being replaced by pre-polymerized inorganic coagulants like Polyferric Sulfate (PFS) and Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC). These advanced agents operate over a wider pH range, form larger flocs at lower dosages, and produce significantly less chemical sludge, dramatically reducing subsequent sludge disposal costs.
The choice of a water flocculant depends heavily on the specific characteristics of the wastewater being treated:
The future of wastewater clarification lies in green chemistry and smart process control. The industry is transitioning toward eco-friendly, biodegradable flocculants to minimize the environmental footprint of polymer residues. Furthermore, the development of inorganic-organic covalent bond flocculants—a field where Smedic Technology has won prestigious awards like the China Patent Award—represents a major leap forward, combining the benefits of both coagulants and flocculants into a single, high-performance macromolecule.
Additionally, the integration of real-time monitoring and AI-driven automated dosing systems is transforming treatment facilities. By continuously measuring turbidity, pH, and flow rates, these systems dynamically adjust flocculant dosage, preventing under-dosing (which leads to poor effluent quality) and over-dosing (which wastes chemicals and can cause filter blinding).
